“I was introduced to Simon by my existing financial adviser, who recommended him due to his UK pensions expertise.
It is clear he has a full understanding of the issues involved, and it is comforting to know he has both UK and Australian qualifications.
Simon takes the time to explain all of the options and makes the process and transition easy to follow. You know you are dealing with someone who has a command of the subject matter.
I would not hesitate in recommending him to anybody with a UK pension fund that requires high quality, knowledgeable advice with integrity.” – Susan C, July 2018
“It was great to find someone like Simon. I nearly fell foul of using an offshore company (you know the ones, they contact you out of the blue) but having someone professional and knowledgeable, who I could sit and talk to, was a great relief. The area of pension advice is one that you should consider carefully before you do anything that you might regret later in life. It’s your money and I would seriously recommend talking with Simon before you make a decision, I’m glad I did” – Paul C, July 2018
“I had worked for many years in the financial services industry in the UK. I was uncomfortable with the knowledge levels and fees of the adviser my bank had referred me to.
When I met Simon it was clear to me that he had both the knowledge and experience to assist me in my UK pension transfers.
I would not hesitate in recommending him to anyone with a UK Pension wishing to receive the highest quality advice.” – Alison E, November 2017
“I wanted good advice and got great advice.
I wanted to deal with a company that is professional and I got a company that is at the top of their profession.
I wanted to speak with real people and I got personal service.
I would not hesitate to recommend Harding Wealth Management, they provide advice like it should be.” – Ian P, October 2017
When paying for advice, make sure it is qualified….
You would be forgiven for assuming that when seeking a firm in Australia offering UK Pensions advice, that they would have the appropriate UK qualifications. Incredibly, this is rarely the case.
A “Pension Transfer Specialist” in the UK is a specific, professionally qualified position. The minimum legal requirement is the UK’s CII Diploma in Financial Planning and either G60, AF3 or AF7. Request proof of these qualifications before engaging with anyone offering advice around this complex and important area of your financial future.
Be wary of “QROPS Specialists” or “QROPS Advisers” as they are rightly viewed with scepticism in the UK. The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has in recent times attempted to curtail the actions of these advisers by introducing the requirement for Pension Transfer Specialist advice for certain schemes and the Overseas Transfer Charge, but more needs to be done. Whilst a Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme is a necessity when transferring UK pension funds to a foreign jurisdiction there are no regulatory bodies or professional qualifications to oversee the actual advice process. Our view is your adviser needs to be able to demonstrate regulated advice experience and appropriate qualifications in both the UK and Australia to provide you with the correct guidance. Under no circumstances should you ever deal with an adviser who is not based full time in Australia and holds an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), regulated by ASIC.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should….
There is no doubt that transferring your UK pension fund to the Australian superannuation environment “may” provide you with many advantages. These include areas such as personal taxation, currency conversion issues, a flexibility of choice and estate planning benefits. However, you may also be sacrificing a superior benefit or placing yourself in a worse off position by transferring. Our first question is not “How” to transfer, but “Why” transfer. Only once we are satisfied it is in your financial best interests to facilitate a transfer will we commence the “How” procedure.
Only an adviser who has demonstrated UK regulated pension accreditation and experience is appropriately qualified to provide you with a balanced reasoning, as to which option is most appropriate for you. It may mean delaying a transfer, or not transferring at all. See our Case Studies page for actual examples of how we have assisted our clients, and discover how we can advise you.
